Abstract

The symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) affect the social functioning of children and adolescents. Objective: to describe the skills of self-control and resolution of social situations in early adolescents with adhd living in Tucumán (argentina). Materials and method: 21 early school adolescents between 10 and 12 years, participated: 10 with and without a diagnosis of adhd. They were administered individually the Questionnaire of Cognitive strategies for solving social situations (eis), the socialization Battery self-Control scale (Bas-3), the sociodemographic survey, the adapted scale of swanson, nolan and pelham, snap iV, the Wechsler intelligence scale for children (WisC iV) and the Behavioral observation Guide for Children. Results: The corroboration of the diagnosis showed symptoms of adhd in inattention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity and comorbidity with behavioral problems. adolescents in the clinical group reported more aggressive and inhibited strategies for solving social problems and less self-control than their peers in the control group. Discussion: these data allow expanding the field of knowledge about social deficits linked to adhd in order to implement intervention strategies in the school environment.
