Abstract

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition, also known as Autism Spectrum, whose presentation is heterogeneous. The prevalence of autism globally has been estimated from the compilation of different sources indicating that at least 1 in 100 people is autistic. This manuscript seeks to analyze this figure in depth from the statistical studies that support it, and also breaks down other identified social determinants whose consideration causes the estimates to vary, highlighting those limitations that the meta-analyses and reviews have had. This bibliographic review on the epidemiology of autism invites a critical reading of the current figures, to have a better understanding.
