Clinical-epidemiological Characteristics and Related Factors in Patients Admitted Due to an Autolytic Attempt

Objective: To establish the clinical epidemiological characteristics and related factors in patients admitted due to an autolytic attempt assisted by the Psychiatry Service of the Eugenio Espejo Hospital (period 2015 – 2017). Design: Epidemiological observational descriptive of prevalence. Population and sample: the clinical records of 270 cases of autolysis presented in the period 2015 - 2017 were studied and reviewed in a public hospital, where the code of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, and all variables studied were recorded. Main measures: clinical epidemiological characteristics and factors related to autolytic attempts. Main results: 270 subjects were studied, 84.4% of which have an urban origin; 70.7% were women, with an average age of 27.08 ± 12.39 years; 95% CI: 25.31 - 28.85 years. 98.5% (n = 266) have some degree of schooling. 73% of the subjects are unemployed or perform jobs that do not require any work specialization; 177 subjects, corresponding to 65.6%; 95% CI: 59.7 - 70.97 live alone. Having children prevails for 45.9%; 251 subjects, that is, 92.96%; 95% CI:89.27 - 95.45, practice some kind of religion and 81.1% professes the catholic religion. 79.6% come from dysfunctional families; 13.3% suffered sexual abuse and 36.3% made previous autolytic attempts. 98 subjects which correspond to 36.3% have depression as a base diagnosis. 76.3% (n= 206) of the subjects made autolytic attempts with drugs and pesticides. Autolytic attempts were more frequent in January and December.
