In Mendoza, since 1998 and through the law 6551, we have been working with cases of child abuse attending to its specificity. Later on, with the enactment of law 26061 of the Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of the Child, there has been a paradigm shift that entails a different technical approach focused on the family, and the child as a subject of rights. Therefore, the objective of this work was to reflect on the characteristics of parenthood from the perspective of those professionals who specialize in cases of child maltreatment to design ways of assessing them in therapeutic areas. Method: A qualitative approach study was carried out. The focus group technique was used as a data collection instrument. A content analysis was made from the data. Results: Four major categories were formed. The first indicated an agreement regarding the concept of parenthood and socio-historical cultural conditions. Based on this analysis, we try to approach the design of evaluation and intervention modalities focused on protective adults that allow us to advance in therapeutic processes
