Social Representations of Psychiatric Practice and Psychiatrists in the City of Buenos Aires (2016)
Keywords:
Perceptions, Mental health , Prejudice, StereotypesAbstract
The objective of this research is to explore the representations that society produces about psychiatry and psychiatrists. There is an epistemological and mutual relationship between society and the psychiatric practice. An exploration of the city of Buenos Aires, our environment, makes it possible to increase our knowledge, and references for comparative studies in other social media or different time frames. The methodological use of categories from other disciplines such as Sociology and Anthropology allows us to expand our considerations and interventions in the field of psychiatric praxis. The construction of interdisciplinary knowledge through the inclusion of questions from broader reference frames generates possibilities and answers to the contemporary theoretical and practical challenge that our specialty by itself does not encompass. The expectation of the present study is that the results add up resources and tools to improve the conditions of professional performance, treatment accessibility and surpassing results.
