Characteristics of Research on Suicide Attempt in Mexican University Students

Abstract

The objective of this work is to present the description of the characteristics of research about Mexican university students that have been published in scientific journals and that reported directly or indirectly on the suicide attempt in the sample studied. Results: 13 articles; 15.38% indicated in the objective as a variable to the suicidal attempt and 83.33% to the suicidal ideation; 23.07% made explicit the way to record the suicide attempt and the year in which the data was captured; 30.76% indicated the presence of suicide attempts in the total sample, ranging from 6.2% to 13%, no report is presented by gender; 69.23% used as explanatory variable suicide attempt (integrated to other variables) using multiple regression and logistic regression, 30.76% placed suicide attempt as response variable, with the use of correlation, simple linear regression, multiple regression and t test Student; It is reported that several variables are associated with the suicidal attempt. The need to increase the research on suicide attempts in Mexican university students is concluded, with clarification of the registration form, the year in which the data are collected, the age interval of the sample and information by gender and by total sample.
