Abstract

Mental toughness is characterized by a collection of psychological resources that empower individuals to persevere in the presence of challenges, errors, and setbacks, allowing them to attain elevated levels of performance notwithstanding the inherent challenges in competitive scenarios. The aim of the present study was to delve into the current
knowledge of the mental toughness construct and its relationship with intolerance to uncertainty in a sample of 121 male football players aged 18 to 40 years (M = 24.38, SD = 5.36), belonging to the top categories of Argentine soccer. A negative correlation was found between mental toughness and intolerance to uncertainty. Furthermore, it was observed that older and more experienced players exhibited higher levels of mental  toughness and lower intolerance to uncertainty. Results suggest the versatility of mental toughness, emphasizing the importance of considering psychological aspects in football training and development.
