Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the most relevant cognitive functions of the human being and their evolution throughout the life cycle, from development to aging. The expected characteristics in the course of healthy aging are exposed and contrasted with those that would suggest some anomaly in this process. In this sense, this review aims to briefly expose the expected milestones of development and aging. Likewise, some signs that do not follow the expected course and suggest the convenience of conducting a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment are delimited. Finally, it is discussed the contribution of these considerations in the care setting of older adults.
