Meta-analysis of the Relationship between Coping Strategies and Burnout Syndrome in Profesionals

Abstract

Burnout syndrome and coping strategies is an issue that, due to its relevance,
has been addressed by various studies. Objective: to search for evidence concerning the relationship of burnout symptoms with different coping strategies. Materials: the meta-analysis included 42 articles,(14,247 participants). Results: emotional exhaustion increases with the use of strategies of focus on and venting emotions, avoidance, and self-blame; and decreases with positive reappraisal. Whereas, depersonalization increases with avoidance, focus on and venting emotions; and decreases with the use of action on the problem and planning. the dimension of personal accomplishment increases with positive reappraisal, action on the problem, planning and seeking for support. the diversity of coping strategies is relevant when designing interventions to treat or prevent this pathology.
